Although Wardner has always loved her job, she said she was recently considering quitting the job.
“I was born to do this,” she said, “but I don’t feel respected or protected.”
The masking problem has been a hot topic in Santa Clara County this week. The supervisory board voted unanimously on Tuesday to impose a fine of up to $ 500 for not wearing a mask in public.
“We have a lot of businesses that are closed and people are out of school, unemployed and going bankrupt,” said County Supervisor Mike Wasserman previously. “We couldn’t take the time to sit down with different groups and negotiate.”
There have been 12,962 coronavirus infections and 207 deaths in the county as of Tuesday, according to Santa Clara County Public Health.
